Four construction projects are under way on the museum's 66-acre grounds: New art galleries, an education/conservation building, a new circus museum and a visitors' pavilion that will contain the restored interior of the original Asolo Theatre.

When all the projects are completed in 2007, "We will have doubled our current square footage," said John Wetenhall, the museum's executive director. USF Sarasota new campus update..

Campus expansion helps USF create new identity

Although the school may never be entirely free of the New College shadow, a new campus with a 100,000-square-foot educational facility might finally grant USF the distinguishing identity it has long pursued.

A survivor of lawsuits and frenzied environmentalists, the $22 million Crosley Center will be a mammoth building.

At its center is a three-story Mediterranean rotunda that will house administrative and faculty offices as well as a 190-seat lecture hall that will also be available to the community.

"We had the amenities, but we lacked the packaging," said Laurie Stryker, President and CEO of USF. "The Crosley Center will help us meet the needs of the community in producing educators, healthcare workers and businessmen."
