Vote YES to control sprawl and prevent overdevelopment in Sarasota County

Please go vote YES for this -- you can do it now or on "election" day May 6th .... just do it ...

There are not that many issues where you will find "everyone" supporting the same side ... read about it in the Sarasota Herald Tribune and the Sarasota County web site info on the admendment. It seems fair that it is "extra special" to be allowed to build something intensive outside of the USB.. and the fact that it has to pay for itself is "obvious"

County government, business, neighborhoods and environmental groups all agree!!!!
Sarasota Citizens for Sensible Growth website has the Charter amendment language -- they were the folks that started the ball rolling --- rolling so fast that even the
Sarasota Chamber of Commerce says vote YES (see this site for a map that shows the USB) as does Save Our Sarasota

Hamptons NBC -- being sued?!?!?!?!?

Another reason you should be scared to go to Palmer Ranch .... (besides the mall) the official "Homeowners Association" is suing someone for having a website about the neighborhood .... see if you think this site Neighbors for a Better Community: “Our Hamptons” is scary...

He does advocate for solar powered lights ....

District 2 and 3 City Commission Races

It's that time again... The 3 district seats for the Sarasota City Commission are all up for a vote. This year at least in District 2 and 3 (near where I live) they are lively races.

District 3 has Danny Bilyeu (the incumbent) and Kelly Kirschner - this race is all about the "vision" of downtown and the neighborhoods.

District 2 has four candidates with Mary Anne SerVian the incumbent and Denise Kowal, Dick Clapp and Andrea Daniels all with their competing ideas.

Sarasota City Manager

Who wants a job where you have 5 bosses that don't agree on what you should be doing? As an added bonus anything that goes wrong in the City will be your fault because you either did or didn't do the "right thing."

If that sounds good to you .. apply at Sarasota City Hall.
At least it pays pretty good.

I am sure there is someone that could be a great Sarasota City Manager. I am not sure they would be smart to want the job.

400 Garbage Trucks on Clark Road

I saw an email today with an invite to a meeting at Twin Lakes Park - Oct 30th 2006 at 6:30pm to discuss a new road that will go from the Knights Trail Landfill to Clark Road (72)...

I am unclear about the actual details but I don't like the idea of a new road for trucks out in the "country" --- don't need big trucks going through the woods .... especially if it puts development pressure on any of it...

Anyway nice website with good graphics ... nice marketing campaign.

US Congress, State House and County Commission Election

I have been getting lots of mail and emails about the September 5th election. I don't remember seeing such negative campaigns in Sarasota. Maybe I ignored it in the past more than I remember but even with the very controversial Katherine Harris (who was a national figure) I don't remember the mud slinging in a primary for US Congress.... guys get it together..

PS immigration and abortion are not even close to "hot button" issues for me. I care about taxes, good (small) government, justice (not jails) and the environment... I am not impressed by the "national republican consultant" version of what I should care about.

Please tone down the negatives .... and please don't go anymore public with the "rumors" that "someone heard" about other candidates... I will vote against that ... and since I endorsed a County Commission candidate trashing him -- for the reason many people will like him is not a good idea.

I don't think any of the candidates is a bad or evil person (I am naive). They have all done good for Sarasota in some way. Unfairly trashing someone to help you win is just not cool in my book ... what would Chuck Norris think??

Sarasota County Commission Race -- vote on or before Sept 5th 2006

We should all be starting to pay attention the County Commission Race just a few weeks away. Lets get over the stupid write-in candidate thing... We should just have open primaries for local elections and get over it.

We have three good people running in the Republican Primary.. in alphabetical order by first name...

Casey Pilon

Joe Barbetta

John Lewis

I have worked with all three of them and am confident that they would each be a good county commissioner.

In the time I have had this blog I have not publicly endorsed any candidates as I wanted to be fair ... I am going to take a stand now and say that I will be voting for ...
