City Planning Board Public Hearing

County schedules June public hearings for Comprehensive Plan update

Sarasota County urges the public to become involved in the updating of its Comprehensive Plan by reviewing draft amendments to the plan and providing feedback at Planning Commission public hearings scheduled for June. The proposed amendments will substantially revise and affect all portions of the Comprehensive Plan. Draft amendments are being made available online at or at the county’s Planning Services on the fifth floor of the Administration Center, 1660 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota.

Every seven years, Sarasota County reviews its Comprehensive Plan to identify and respond to changing trends and conditions in the community, as well as changing state and regional growth management policies. The process results in amendments – which must be approved by the Florida Department of Community Affairs ­– that keep the plan aligned with community values and visions. The review process includes public input on a variety of issues from growth to neighborhood planning to water policies and other issues that define the quality of life in Sarasota County.

6 p.m., Wednesday, June 8; Robert L. Anderson Administration Center, 4000 S. Tamiami Trail, Venice.

Housing Chapter
6 p.m., Thursday, June 9, Sarasota County Administration Center, 1660 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota.

Housing Chapter continuation as necessary; Future Land Use Chapter including the 2050 Plan
6 p.m., Wednesday, June 15, Sarasota County Administration Center, 1660 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota.

Future Land Use Chapter continuation
6 p.m., Wednesday, June 22, Sarasota County Administration Center, 1660 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota.

Future Land Use Chapter continuation, including requests for map designation changes

Following the public hearings, the Planning Commission will forward its recommendations on the proposed updates to the County’s Comprehensive Plan to the Board of County Commissioners for consideration beginning in September.
