As a web developer I am happy to see any new web site with interesting content come out. Only a very, very small percent of what goes on is documented on the web so more is better.
I really love the video service both City and County government websites are now offering. You can go to either site and watch commission meetings.
BUT when you title a site "Your Voice" and the only way for me to provide "my voice" is an email link that goes to the "webmaster" that is pretty lame.
The ex- city manager was able to have a blog and allowed comments and he was a non techy blogger. It got messy sometimes but I think overall it was a good forum. I have also seen the Sarasota Herald Tribune "discussion forums" so I understand that allowing public comments can be messy.
BUT this site is "county governments voice" not "my voice" ..
Also on a techy note:
Dear Sarasota County Government Webmaster... please view your site in Firefox - the "Links of Interest" list displays on top of the content ...

Just Keep at it
Thanks for the kind words. moraca.org is the result of two years of blogging semi regular.. so just keep doing it and using your own voice. I do this for myself - yes I enjoy seeing that others read it but I don't really need much of an audience to keep going. So if you are doing something you enjoy you will have a great site. If you are doing it trying to get rich -- good luck..
I don't think being published in the newspaper can hurt you. Redmond must be a pretty interesting place ... I bet you have "real" traffic
I use drupal for my blogging / CMS / website building software. I think its great but does require some geekyness ..
is there future for me as a blogger or reporter?
Your sight is incredibly detailed and organized. You must have a full time staff to produce this piece of work!
I've started a "blog" on the City of Redmond - Neighborhoods and my Microsoft friend says it's more of a journal. The local newspaper has read it and is offering to contract with me for periodic articles. My friend says this is not good.
He wants me to find blogging medium to allow linking, etc.
Do you think I have potential to get my city actively "talking" with a different blog structure. I know I don't have the time you have - or technical expertise.
Thanks
Redmond,WA. (home of Microsoft).
