July 5th City Commission Meeting

Speaking for myself ...

I am not sure why the "community boat dock" / new subdivision is a good idea for the city ... other than increased tax revenue. If it passes "we" should still have an open ROW for any MURT / Parkway uses.

I think that having as many police on the street as the City can afford is a good idea. If there is some way to not spend too much more and get more cops on the street as the City Manager alluded to GREAT.

Obtaining the 5 acre tract near North Water Tower Park is a great idea... paying $1,000,000 Cash may be tough but wooded open space is valuable ... $200K / acre seems pretty cheap the way prices are in Sarasota. A trade for "surplus" property that can become "workforce" housing would be cool.. Personally I see lots of potential for Bayou Oaks

Park

The land near Water Tower Park would be used for park uses.. If the City had other land to trade that land could be used for housing... this is all "hypothetical" until something happens.

north water tower park

"A trade for 'surplus' property that can become 'workforce' housing would be cool" <-- wait, is it going to be a park or is it going to be housing?

Your blog is one of the best sources of Sarasota-related info I've found. Thanks!

July 5 Commission Meeting

Pretty fast on the coverage. Maybe you'd be good as a "community news blogger"! Actually, I hope we convinced some of the commissioners that there is no value in giving up current city street land ("ROW") for a developer to make into a private street.
