Hudson Bayou and Pomelo Ave Lift Station

Yeah to my friends Susan Chapman and Mollie Cardamone that Tuesday night lead their neighborhoods in forcing the city to take a very serious look at "their" lift station and we hope all city infrastructure. I only saw the end of the special City Commission meeting on TV but it seemed to have gone well. We seem to have hired top quality consultants to review the situation now lets listen to what they said.

The citizens of Sarasota want, deserve, and can afford first class infrastructure -- clean water and sewage are basic to urban life. If we need to spend money and change "owners" lets get it done ASAP...

ManaSota-88 may sue City over sewage spills

SARASOTA -- An environmental group is waiting 90 days before filing a lawsuit in response to two large sewage spills, which it says violated the Clean Water Act.

ManaSota-88 wants to give the city of Sarasota time to address several issues with its sewage system before it files a lawsuit, said Glenn Compton, the group's chairman.

Representatives of ManaSota-88 met with the city on June 23 to discuss the suit. In a letter to city attorney Robert Fournier on Tuesday, the group's attorney, Brett Paben, said the group "believes the city is sincere in its efforts to rectify the violations."

The group believes the city has been violating the Federal Water Pollution Control Act and a state environmental permit by allowing the raw sewage to flow into Sarasota Bay without taking proper precautions to prevent more spills.

City has hired Pam Keyes as deputy director for Public Works
