Fruitville Road cleaning up nicely. I have an idea to help...

Fruitville Road has been a real ugly gateway into downtown Sarasota. I am glad to report it is getting much nicer. The new condo's are replacing the run down old buildings that had been held for investment ... I am sure they are not cheap but they will bring lots more people into the area when they are completed.

This road is a car mover and will never really be nice to walk along with the traffic and narrow sidewalks but moving from the north neighborhoods of Gillespie Park and Rosemary District to downtown or back will be OK.

There is even an area of nice retail antique shops. But not good to walk along these must be the narrowest sidewalks in town.. due to road widening. This is a short few blocks from downtown downtown .. the bus station / whole foods are right around the corner.

My idea is to take this mostly unused alley / parking / loading area behind the shops and turn it into a great courtyard / outdoor sort of showroom area (think Towles Court). I really thing this could work. Of course, you still need parking but they could move that to one shared area and even have room for trucks to pickup and deliver.
