New "5 year plan"... for affordable housing...

Sarasota City / County Office of Housing and Community Development sets new “5-year plan” goals are:

  • Renovate 380 homes.
  • Provide down-payment assistance so that 550 low- and moderate-income families can become homeowners.
  • Assist 400 low-income renters with security or utility deposits.
  • Help developers create 300 new rental homes for low- to moderate-income tenants.
  • Help nonprofit organizations build 85 homes for lower-income families.
  • Relocate the 128 tenants in the Janie Poe public housing complex and raze the apartments so a new neighborhood can be built there.
  • Help developers obtain financing to build a rental complex for low-income seniors.
  • Assist 200 HIV or AIDS patients with housing expenses to prevent them from becoming homeless.
  • Create a loan fund to help Newtown businesses create 50 jobs for low-income residents.
  • Construct a $400,000 social services facility in North Port.
  • Provide home buyer education for 2,500 households.
