So for something pretty different .... a random thought triggered me browsing for the ancient library in Alexandria which is in Egypt for the geographically challenged. It was started by the Greeks (Alexander the Great) .... I have always loved libraries -- and the web is the biggest one there is.

I had a very vague understanding of what it really was so after some research ...

So anyway there is a new Bibliotheca Alexandrina very near the original site.

"The ancient library of Alexandria and the re-build of the modern one" is a very good summary of what the library was and some on what the new one is like.

As with anything great and old there is a mystery.... how was it destroyed??
